Parachute Industry Association Keynote Speech

Monday, August 5, 2013

Last March I had the honor of being invited to deliver the Keynote Speech at the PIA Symposium. This is a terrific event filled with people who are so deeply involved and passionate about our sport and industry. I highly recommend it to veterans, novices, instructors, students, DZOs and anyone who loves skydiving.  The information on business, equipment, competition and safety is endless.

If you have any interest in seeing it the link to my presentation is below.   As many of you know I am rarely short of words so it’s probably no surprise that it’s a bit long.  But it is what it is. I’d love to get your feedback if you care to comment.

Wishing you blue skies always,

Dan

  1. Hi, Dan.

I listened to your PIA keynote speech and as always was fascinated with the passion you have for our sport. I was also struck with how you kept it simple. No complicated graphs and charts but an objective view at the big picture, at the obvious, which as you stated, is complacency.

I am always impressed about how you never forget where you came from and how the people you met along the way helped inspire you. I will never forget my visit to the Centerburg DZ when you told me you wanted to do a back-in and I told you to come on down to Xenia and I’d show you how. And I don’t know if you logged jumps from June of 1982, but if you did you will see some pretty good 4-way with Pat Stollard, Mark Badillo and me.

But most of all, thanks for sharing your passion and advice at the PIA symposium.

    Your first 4-way buddy,
    -Ed Lightle

  2. Hi Dan, you may remember I commented a month or so back on your blog about who are the people at dropzones, I was the gardener who had always dreamed of skydiving and was about to do my first aft jump. You asked me to let you know how it went. Well yesterday evening after many days of waiting around for the correct weather I finally did my level 1+2, and not to exaggerate it was absolutely awesome and I can’t wait to get back to the dz to jump again! Keep going with the blog, I’ll keep reading :-) thanks
Still as exited as a kid at Christmas.
    Richard.
